Kelpie is a Great swimmer I friggin knew it!
Today was cold and rainy, so I didn’t bring the ducklings outside.
When they don’t have their feathers, they need temps in the 90s or high 80s. When their feathers come in, they can handle (apparently) our negative January temperatures just fine as long as they have a cozy place out of the wind. It’s wild that a few weeks can make a 100 degree difference in their temperature tolerance!
Today, with only their down, they were starting to look really cooped up in their brooder box! Arthur insists they are teenagers now.
The duckies seemed to really like their swim! Kelpie kept diving about underwater. Chocolate chip got tired first, padding about and just peeping to break my heart. So we picked them up, toweled them off and returned them to their heat lamp. They are now happily preening.
I’ve finished almost everything in their duck run, so I can move them outside as soon as it gets a little warmer/or/as soon as they get their feathers. Whichever happens first.
Shockingly, Kelpie and Blue Echoa are now larger than Chocolate Chip. She is still pretty apparently the smartest duck, but Kelpie has taken over as the sibling enforcer. All that Rawr. She’s the best.
